Creating SEO within a Niche

Having a niche on YouTube is great and often one of the best ways to really gain momentum, focused content is rewarded after all! However It can sometimes be difficult to figure out what kind of SEO working best within YOUR niche...
Whether you’re in fitness, tech reviews, gaming, or finance, long-term growth comes from understanding how search works, how viewers think, and how to position your content strategically.
Let's dive into some of the things we look at when approaching a very specific niche such as a Pokemon TCG channel for example...

Hype isn't always Hype! It can be very easy to fall into the trap of trying really hard to make everything feel like the most exciting thing in the world. For a Pokémon TCG channel, this might be a title such as “INSANE PULLS!!!” or “YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS”. These sorts of titles might be effective for a well established YouTuber but if you're still trying to make a name for yourself, these wont do anything for you because they lack any searchability or context. Not many viewers are searching these terms on their own meaning your video is unlikely to pop up in the desired niche.
Something like “151 Elite Trainer Box: Is it worth the pulls?” might seem more mundane on the surface but it provides enough common terms within the niche meaning YouTube knows exactly who to show it to without being overly long or so detailed that it comes off as too formal. You don't want your title looking like one of those product listings that are nothing but tags!
Ask what your audience is actually looking for. Are they trying to solve a problem? Compare products? Learn a skill? Research a purchase decision? When content aligns with search intent, it becomes discoverable long after it’s uploaded.
Keep cycling those cycles!
Most niches will have a relatively predictable cycle you can follow to make sure your content is relevant and not in danger of becoming outdated. In the Pokémon space, new set announcements and release dates are sure signs of an increase in searches. If you can keep up with and anticipate these waves, you'll be able to plan content around them and beating others to the punch is a sure way to top search results and reach homepages.
Your niche likely has similar patterns! Tech channels align content with new products. Fitness creators lean into seasonal motivation spikes such as the New year. Finance creators respond to market changes or tax season. Instead of uploading randomly, mapping your content to milestone moments can be a game changer. ...but don't neglect your bread and butter!
Uploading at times of great importance is perfect for grabbing a ton of new viewers at once but content that hits consistently all year round is important too! Trendy content benefits from those cycles we talked about... for Pokémon, that includes new set openings or release dates like we talked about.
Evergreen content, however, is what builds constant traffic. Tutorials, beginner guides, foundational explanations, and frequently asked questions remain relevant for years, sometimes forever! A video explaining the best places to start collecting Pokémon cards will continue attracting new viewers long after the excitement around a specific set fades. The same principle applies whether you’re teaching fitness fundamentals or explaining how to open an investment account. A combination of both content types is what you're aiming for if you're after optimal SEO! This is what nets you both momentum and stability.
and of course, thumbnails!
None of this works without strong thumbnails. SEO generates impressions but thumbnails convert them into views! In the simplest terms, effective thumbnails clearly communicate the subject of your video at a glance. For Pokémon cards, that might mean a nice big, clear image of a popular chase card with bold, readable text (Much like the one at the top of this blog post!). In other niches, clarity, contrast, and emotional expression often outperform cluttered designs. Your thumbnail should instantly answer what the video is about and why it should matter to a potential viewer!
So, the takeaway?
Getting the perfect SEO in your niche can be tricky but with clever use of industry cycles, intentional titles, realistic keywords, and building authority through consistency you'll set yourself up with the best chance of making your way onto your audiences homepages and search results! We focused on the Pokémon TCG niche today but the framework works just as effectively in any field!
If you approach your niche as an ecosystem to be understood rather than a random stream of uploads then strategy will start to replace guesswork and you'll be well on your way to growing your channel!
